Pre-K: Decades Worth Of Studies, One Strong Message

Florida's statewide Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program was established in 2005 through Florida law. Since it's beginning, Florida's four year-olds have been fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a free preparatory program to help them be ready for kindergarten when they begin school. Unfortunately, not all other states throughout the United States offer such programs to their residents.

 

Research is becoming clearer and clearer on the benefits and pay-off that public preschool/prekindergarten programs provide; they truly do prepare children for long-term success in school. It has been argued that "poor and disadvantaged kids often make the most gains" when they are given the opportunity and attend preschool programs.
