| What is Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)? |
 |
The
Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Education (VPK) Program
came about through Florida voters' approval of a
constitutional amendment in 2002. House BiII1A was
signed into law by Governor Bush on January 2, 2004,
creating a program designed to prepare 4 year
olds for Kindergarten and lay the foundation for
their educational success. The program allows a
parent to enroll his or her eligible child in a
free pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program. |
| Who is eligible to participate in the
program? |
Each child
residing in Florida who will have attained 4
years of age on or before September 1 of the
school year is eligible for the pre-K program
during that school year. A child remains eligible
until the beginning of the school year for which
the child is eligible for admission to Kindergarten
in a public school (Le.. the child attains the
age of 5 years on or before September 1 of the
school year) or is admitted to Kindergarten,
whichever occurs first. Every child who is four
years old on or before September 1st, will be eligible
to attend the Voluntary Pre-K Program. |
