February 2020: Children's Dental Health Month

Healthy, Safe, and Strong! These descriptions are what all parents aspire to see in their children. During February, we want to raise awareness about the importance of children's dental health. Please see below for some relevant consumer information/resources on this topic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges parents and caregivers to ensure good oral health for their children. "Tooth decay (cavities) is one of the most common chronic conditions of childhood in the United States. Untreated tooth decay can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning."

"Every parent knows that a healthy smile is a sign of a happy child, and oral health experts agree that creating those healthy smiles begins in infancy."

Here are some simple steps that parents/caregivers can follow to ensure their children's oral health:

  • Start cleaning teeth early.
  • Use the right amount of flouride toothpaste.
  • Supervise brushing.
  • Talk to your child's doctor or dentist.

Detailed information for each of the steps above can be found by clicking/viewing the hand-outs below!
