May 2019: Mental Health Awareness
& Teacher/Provider Appreciation Days!
National Mental Health Awareness Month was started by the Mental Health America organization, then known as the National Association for Mental Health, with a purpose to raise awareness and educate the public about: mental illnesses ... the realities of living with these conditions; and strategies for attaining mental health and wellness. Additionally, Mental Health Awareness Month strives to reduce the stigma (negative attitudes and misconceptions) that surrounds mental illnesses. The month came about by presidential proclamation.* *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mental_Health_Awareness_Month

The Friday before Mother's Day (Friday, May 10, 2019) was Provider Appreciation Day, a special day to recognize teachers, school-age program staff, child care center directors and staff, and all those who work with children and are responsible for their education and care. The Coalition would like to personally thank each and every one of our child care providers for making a commitment to serve our community. Thank you for investing in our children on a daily basis ensuring they are safe and well cared for.
We were excited to be able to offer a special opportunity for our child care providers this year. By participating, their facility had the opportunity to be recognized for their submitted response and won a FREE field trip for a group of children enrolled at their facility. Winners were selected by random drawing during the closing ceremony of our 2nd Annual Early Childhood Educators Conference: Ready, Set, Learn! on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
Thank you to all the child care providers who participated in this year's Provider Appreciation Day Contest.
