Navigating the Upgraded Family Portal
The Family Portal has been upgraded to Single Sign-On. To access your account, follow the steps below. You can also refer to the Family Portal Guide or watch the video tutorial for instructions.
Existing Families:
- Visit the Family Portal. Click the Sign-In button.
- Click Hosted / Self-Registered login.
- Enter your username and password from the Single-Sign-On registration.
- You will be prompted to send a code to your selected method of multi-factor authentication. Retrieve the code and enter it. Then, click the Verify Code button.
- Your Family Portal account home page will be displayed.
New Families:
- Visit the Family Portal. Click the Sign-up button
- Enter your valid email address and click the Send Verification Button.
- Retrieve the code and enter it on the Portal page. Click the Verify Code button.
- Complete the relevant fields.
- You will be prompted to send a code to your selected method of multi-factor authentication. Retrieve the code and enter it. Then, click the Verify Code button.
- Navigate back to the Family Portal homepage to sign-in.

The New Worlds Reading Program
While November is National Family Literacy Month, the Coalition celebrates reading all year long! This is the perfect time to encourage the joy of reading and help children build a lifelong love of books. The New Worlds Reading Program makes it easy for families to spark that love at home!
Through this free program, eligible children recieve a new book each month, delivered right to their door. Every story is designed to inspire curiosity, imagination, and confidence in young readers.
Join us in celebrating this month and explore how New Worlds Reading can open up a world of possibilities for your child!
Head Start Awareness
October is Head Start Awareness Month where the important work for young children and their families is celebrated. For more than 60 years, Head Start has helped children from birth to age five get ready for school and build a strong future.
Through community partnerships, Head Start also helps with health care, healthy meals, mental wellness, disability services, parenting skills, family engagement and school readiness. These services empower parents to be their child’s first teacher and give children and families the support they need to learn, grow and succeed.
In Florida, Head Start and Early Head Start programs serve more than 45,000 children. Every child receives health and developmental screenings. Staff also helps families find doctors and dentists to support their health and well-being. Head Start’s family engagement staff help parents set goals, improve financial stability, and connect with community resources. About one out of every five Head Start staff members is a current or former Head Start parent. This shows how the program continues to support families even after their children grow.
Families can apply for Head Start and Early Head Start throughout the year. These programs help children build skills for school while supporting the health and well-being of the whole family.
October is National Book Month
October is National Book Month, making it the perfect time to celebrate the joy of reading and the important role books play in children’s learning and development. From the very first lullaby to favorite chapter books, reading together helps children build vocabulary, strengthen listening skills, spark imagination, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Families can make reading part of their everyday routine at any age:
- Birth to Two: Read board books, nursery rhymes, and simple picture books. Talk, sing, point to pictures, and let your child turn the pages.
- Ages Three to Five: Ask questions about stories, encourage children to predict what happens next, and invite them to retell favorite stories in their own words.
- Kindergarten and Beyond: Let children choose books that interest them. Read together, take turns reading, and talk about characters, settings, and new words.
Literary Resources for Familes
- Read, read, read! Visit your local library for free books, literacy programs,and activities for all ages.
- Make it Interactive:Sing songs, recite rhymes, tell stories, and play word games during everyday routines such as bath time, meals, or car rides.
- Talk About Books: There is no right or wrong answer when discussing a story. Ask, “What was your favorite part?” “What do you think will happen next?” or “How would you feel if you were the character?”
- Create a Reading Routine: Set aside 15 minutes each day for books. A consistent reading routine can make literacy a fun and meaningful part of family life.
